Simoni Jain
I am a PhD candidate at the University of California Berkeley, in the Business and Public Policy group (BPP) at the Haas School of Business.
My research interests lie in development and labor economics, and I am interested in understanding labor market inefficiencies in developing countries — why workers queue for jobs, how beliefs shape search behavior, and what institutional rules amplify or dampen these frictions. Another strand of my research is in the political economy of development, where I am studying corruption norms in public offices.
Before moving to Berkeley, I was a pre-doctoral fellow at the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago. I have also worked at J-PAL South Asia where I worked on governance and public service delivery projects.
